The sheer number of tones being juggled fairly seamlessly in this movie is impressive.
I wish I had a little more Mickey 18 in me, but if I’m totally honest, it’s Mickey 17 I relate to.
Pattinson is really carving himself out a nice little filmography, isn’t he? He’s awesome in this.
My first reaction takeaway is this movie is operating at its highest level during the rising action—the cinematography during the journey through the countryside to find Count Orlok is stunning and moody. As is the camerawork when we first arrive at his castle, which keeps him just out of reach, just barely in the shadows, just out of focus enough to keep us wondering.
