  12 Years a Slave 2013

  This was a good film and very unsettling at times. Michael Fassbender and Ejiofor did a nice job in their roles. I enjoyed the movie and the history was very fascinating and horrifying to witness. The movie felt slow and a boring at times which dropped its rating. Not 100% settled though, I could definitely see this one being a 4 star on a rewatch, but sticking with this for now.

  Really enjoyable film. Jake Gyllenhaal, Hugh Jackman, and Paul Dano all posted terrific performances. I thought the opening at Thanksgiving dinner was shot, scripted, and acted so well. It felt so real and normal and having no prior knowledge about this movie, I had no idea what was going to happen. The movie lulled a little in the middle and I didn’t super enjoy the scenes in the abandoned building. Honestly, one of my favorite performances by Jake, I looked forward to every moment he was on screen and he elevated the movie so much. Looking forward to rewatch where I can see what I missed.

  Disappointed on the rewatch. The vibe and aesthetic is cool, but the film slows down sooo much in the second half. Additionally, was just not a fan of the Riddler. He felt like an afterthought and I didn’t find his motive all that interesting.
