Welcome to the Dollhouse 1995
The places this went were wild! What seems like a normal off-beat comedy (like Napoleon Dynamite), goes off the rails with hilarious, cruel and subversive plot points. Dawn was a great protagonist who is so beaten down by the callous attitudes of everyone around her that she goes to very extreme places (that, in my opinion, are low-key valid). I will definitely be recommending this film in the future!

Daisies 1966
Bonkers. The impishly mischievous and anarchic havoc that is wreaked in this film is something to behold. Even though the film’s surrealism (with hallucinogenic colour shifts and bizarre allusions) made it hard to follow, I found the two protagonists loveable in their chaos and total societal disregard. I wonder if all Czech cinema is this crazy!

Anora 2024
This subverted so many of my expectations, being just as funny as it was heartbreaking. I found film’s crudeness how so many moments were in poor taste fascinating as they show the world that Ani has had to construct for herself. Everything that is left unsaid in this film is the most powerful as it alludes to our protagonist’s past and how she has the best intentions at carving a better life for herself but has been conditioned to respond…
