This film is wisely constructed, taking into consideration its budget, around viewing a large, large world from a very small, very familiar lens. The audience is hurtling through unknown space aimlessly and empty handed, and yet we center on a teenage girl inheriting a dying world and a broken family; what could be closer to home than that? The cinematography conveys the suffocating environment, the anxiety, the detachment and distrust, at every turn. You are plunged into a strange world…

Fascinating, sterile and grotesquely intimate, deadpan and wretched and profound, a sepia-tinted laugh in the face of capitalist inspiration porn surrounding disability. I feel like the two leads wanted this movie to be more homoerotic than it ended up.
The only complaint I have is that the “genetics as the dominant social paradigm” falls a bit flat in the face of a movie that gives maybe one(?) person of color a speaking line, and that constantly surrounds the only female…Translated from by
