Super solid film, classic feel. Only critique would be that it could do more with the characters - but honestly, some of cinema's classic crime films do even less in that department and are still amazing. Jude Law fantastic. Some lovely, clean photography with occasional and well placed flair (hello POV-attached-to-a-door shot). A shame it's not been talked about/picked up. But it seems these days all anyone talks about are statement films - even if they're terrible - and not just good, staid, quality films.

Spotlight 2015
What I liked the most was the naturalistic style, which nevertheless included subtle but artistic deep field shots of long office floors and everyday scenes with churches in the background. Sometimes all you need to do in cinema is stick the camera somewhere on a tripod with a wide shot and let the scene do the talking.

Fun and funny. Laughed out loud a lot. Really enjoyed the indulgent humour, references and cameos. How much longevity those jokes have remains to be seen.
But my word is the story shocking. The problem with the meta-busting, self-demeaning and endlessly self-referential style is that there is very little left to sincerely engage with, especially within its own genre of the super-hero movie. Thus, the plot is thrown out entirely for garbled nonsense, set up solely to provide a context…

Napoleon 2023
A middle of the road film, unfortunately.
Good:
- Visually appealing. Some very nice cinematics at points, including references to various paintings.
- Great sets and costumes.
- Battle scenes are good, in that typical Ridley Scott way.
- Practical effects 👍
- a couple of good performances (Vanessa Kirby, Rupert Everett)Excellent:
- The British come off well, as they should.Bad:
- As many have noted, it's just a highlight reel of significant moments and therefore doesn't really…Translated from by
