Kissing Booth is framed through the perspective of young Elle who is progressively groomed by college-bound longtime crush Noah — wooing her with an intoxicating concoction of threats and violent machismo. The idea to veil this harrowing story as a corny teen romcom is well deserved of praise; every scene fills me with gut-wrenching despair. Kissing Booth is difficult to watch as we sit audience to Noah’s warped, manipulative courtship of Elle, yet masterfully depicts the rose-colored glasses through which victims view their situation.
