Wings of Desire 1987
While the film itself did not make me immensely emotional near the end like Paris, Texas, Wings of Desire’s aerial look of humanity as a whole is what really touched me. Lady Snowblood 1973
Damn does this whole film just ooze style and grace. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much but the further it went on, the more my eyes widened and my jaw dropped. I actually had to sit up and get completely invested in those last 30 minutes or so. Even when I guessed most of the twists like 5 minutes before they happened, it still made me say something out loud. You can really feel the rage and bitterness from Meiko Kaji, with her eyes widened and a blank expression. She’s a demon out for blood, and nobody is getting a happy ending here.
