    Fascinated to know what my reaction to this would have been if I'd only watched the last half hour, none of the context/character build up beforehand. Because was I worried about the mission going wrong? No. Did I care about Armstrong's grief? Not especially. His relationship with his wife? Nope. But did I cry continually from the moon landing sequence on, right through the credits and practically into the lobby? Yes. An overwhelming yes.

    The thing about letting the air out of a thing is that you let the air out of the thing. Past that point, an odd failure of narrative imagination and/or a self-defeating commitment to 'realism', resulting in a linearly predictable series of disappointments. Funny though!

    I get why everyone hates on this so much, but that 45 minute stretch in the middle where it's mostly just a comedy about weirdo rich English people in 2006 is pretty great. Find it hard to dislike any movie that makes me laugh this much, even if Fennel ends up running away from that stuff into her edgy, less interesting, inconsistently characterised Ripley riff.
