Put the ozempic injector down, dead ass

Oddly compelling given McQueen’s decision to visually frame the historical tragedy of occupation with images of modern day Amsterdam. Yet the idiosyncrasies which render this film compelling are the same ones which hold it back from achieving the level of poignancy as something like Lanzmann’s Shoah.

I will add - get a good night’s sleep before going into this one.

Sometimes suffocates under its glacial pace (honestly, it feels like sometimes things are happening in slow motion, and needlessly so) but a beautiful film nonetheless and an absolutely harrowing ending
