No Other Land 2024
Just so simply straightforward. A string of basic subtitles and conversations let you stitch the story together in a slow, focused way all the while opening up the seams to the deeply calloused inhumanity // unshakeable devotion at every turn.
Documentaries are public education and I think this piece works for every level of prior knowledge. Holding onto any small hope the Oscars exposure will help reach the audiences it needs to reach.

Eighth Grade 2018
Palms sweaty, too close to home - cringefully accurate take on your mid teens. Social isolation sucks and this movie does it very viscerally. Somehow simultaneously evokes a really beautiful empathy for this awkward ass kid. The slightly nauseating, constant use of phones was also done really well

Kneecap 2024
What a brilliant movie anchored by an incredible story. Stylistically so enjoyable, cheekily funny, great character snapshot of Belfast as a city, amazing soundtrack, exciting frenetic energy. A novel execution of dramatising a real story by casting the actual people at the centre of it.
Exploration of language as resistance. Dream theme for my love of socio-linguistics.
Just want to grab everyone by the shoulders, shake them and implore them to watch this.

White Chicks 2004
It’s 2005, my parents have dragged me to a one dish party at their friends place in the Hills, a bunch of kids who barely know each other sit awkwardly in the rumpus, the older kids (read teenagers) rifle through the DVD collection, Futurama doesn’t make the cut, White Chicks wins. Watching an M movie without my m0m’s permission - life is good.
