I liked a lot of the quieter moments. The weird comic book transitions and the chase is actually pretty fun.

I’m convinced the 1970’s is Francis Ford Coppila’s best decade whilst also simultaneously causing his drop off. He delivered four incredible films in the 70’s, would’ve had a sharp decline with all of the pressure from that (or ego, who knows really! Nah he seems like a lovely guy).

What an extreme introduction to Bollywood for me. I will be so critical of every action movie I see after this because this is now my gold standard. It’s so unrealistic but that’s the point. It can get so absurd but also knows when to take itself seriously. The style is beautiful, absolutely incredible. The music sequences are brilliant, the villain is hate-able (as are all British people) and the characters are all written just so perfectly. I love everything about this. The Bollywood weirdness fucks so hard.

November 2024 Film a day challenge:

My takeaway from this is that Gene Wilder has so much aura.

I also find Mel Brooks’ style/sense of humour in line with Monty Python that came out a few years after this. Got to say I think Brooks has the better execution in my opinion. This is my favourite comedy/satire piece - that ending act is so strange.
