Mission: Impossible – Fallout 2018
This is a great action movie but it doesn’t feel like a mission impossible movie, 6 films in though I understand why they felt the need to shake up the formula but I miss cool gadgets and heists! Henry Cavill is a great villain and they bring Sean Harris back and give him more to do so Ethan feels properly antagonized. The chase scenes through Paris are spectacular and the whole ending sequence is dynamite.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning 2023
Very welcome return of Kittridge! But I just can’t get excited about the villainous A.I. that has no personality or motivation. The action is above average for any other action movie but definitely feels like a step down form the previous few entries. Grace is a welcome addition to the crew, love Hayley Atwell but it comes the expense of pretty much everyone else. I still like the movie but these latest entries feel like they’re getting further away from what made Mission Impossible different and more like standard action films

Was listening to a podcast about the best Elmore Leonard adaptions and this made the list. I haven’t read the book so I can judge it as an adaptation but the movie is pretty good. It has a lot of the telltale signs of an Elmore Leonard story but dumbed down for a Charles Bronson movie. Some fun twists, nice action and a better than average Bronson performance. As a Godfather fan it was a real treat to see Sollozzo/Al Lettieri get to ham it up a bit.
