best in class set design and impeccable costuming with a standout performance from ralph fiennes, not to mention some truly beautiful cinematography (and brain-tickling foley work). but what this film can boast in terms of beauty and technical prowess, it lacks in equal measure any semblance of a meaningful narrative. so much money and energy spent just to say a whole lot of nothing. in a word, disappointing.
