An interesting look into a world that most people don’t see. Hardcore Catholics will probably be offended by many aspects but that just means it’s fairly realistic.
Ralph Fiennes is one of the best of this generation. Other acting and music supreme too.
One detractor is I found it to be a bit simplistic at times in the liberal vs conservative struggle. The Catholic Church has some crazy lore and delving into that would have been interesting.
Between a 3.5 and a 4 here really. Call it a 3.75.

Gladiator II is a fitting continuation of the story. It’s not as good as the first one but comes pretty close. The repetition of themes from the first one, which many people are criticizing, is in my opinion a deliberate choice. Rome is meant to be portrayed as this endless cycle of bloodshed and tyranny. Brief glimmers of hope are quickly dispersed by oppression. We see the same characters (Senator Gracchus) fighting the good fight repeatedly and never living to…
