Nickel Boys 2024
The incredibly inventive cinematography is the main appeal of Nickel Boys. It looks fantastic and the POV shots create an involvement with the characters similar to the one I feel when playing video games - and I mean that 100% as a compliment. Even though the screenplay didn’t quite reach the highs of the technical aspects for me, the story was still devastating. It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before and that alone is pretty damn cool.

Definitely feels like barbarian in a lot of ways. The twists are pretty effective and Sophie Thatcher is very very good. Once the initial shock passes the film loses strength, but it’s a massive fuck you to the red pill, entitled, insecure dudes that infest the internet nowadays and it’s very easy to get a kick out of that.
