The Two Popes 2019
Excellently made film with two wonderful performances from the two lead actors but always the nagging doubt if anything I was seeing was actually true.

The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil 2019
Very violent film but then so is the subject matter as a cop and a gangster search for a brutal killer. One or two OTT moments but this is a very solid piece of filmmaking and it kept me hooked to the end.

Rambo: First Blood Part II 1985
A dreadful film which features Sylvester Stallone at his very worst. The original First Blood is pretty terrific but this drags the character of Rambo into the gutter. I first saw it on home video in the 80s - it had not improved with age! It gets one star for Jack Cardiff's wonderful photography work.

Mortal Engines 2018
A crazy world in which cities can move is stunningly realised in this film. Agreed the quality of the special effects are not matched by the script which packs an awful lot in to two hours and the tale might have been better told as a tv series. I enjoyed it though and would happily watch it again.
