The Monkey 2025
Funny, but thematically muddled. It's Stephen King on autopilot, dealing with childhood traumas in the depopulated American Northeast via supernatural media. Wildly out of place in terms of period, bridging the 90s (they feel like the 70s) and the 2010s (they feel like the 80s.)
A stylish horror comedy, but it's snark often serves to undercut heartfelt moments and distance the audience from characters we're supposed to identify with.
