  The Struggles is a dramatically poetic name for the historic event it represents, so self-defeating, so pointless, so unresolved.

  Sometimes unresolved, is what we all get.

  Sometimes the result is a burnt house, and a banshee looking over, and dark clouds moving in, as shadows cast greater to obscure.

  This film is highly frustrating for me, it yields so many incredible technical and aesthetic choices that feel just right. But it cannot bring to get more than just that!

  I just can’t really pin-point my exact frustrations but it seems like Eggers obstinate perception of historical accuracy genuinely works to the detriment of the gothic horror that seems sought after by him. You just cannot have true horror without artistic license, what might’ve given ambience destroyed immersion.
