Kikujiro 1999
I just love the vivid, stylish and colorful details in this movie. When Kikujiro wants to show you what it feels like to be a child, it almost turns into an over the top japanese TV show. At the same time, it does a great job at showing you the underlying sadness of the main characters: those moments are really sincere and not at all tear-squeezing as you expect them to be in a family drama.

Really love Jarmusch's early movies. As much as I love the charm and dramedy of his Stranger Than Paradise, I adore the masterful camerawork, coolness and humor of Down by Law.
I love to think that Benigni's character, as the personification of the American dream, keeps the cynical characters of Waits and Lurie afloat in their unfortunate, aimless lives.

Mad God 2021
I get it, this movie looks amazing. It's violent, bonkers insane, bleeding and festering. It's a great wrapper for a statement about war, human cruelty, hope and doom and a heck of a lot more. Mad God is repulsively beautiful and chaotic, but that chaoticness prevents me from seeing it as a whole picture. That's why it would be 3.5 stars BUT can't give any stunning stop motion movie less than 4.
