The Running Man 1987
Half of the Arnold soundboard clips from Ebaumsworld are lines from this movie.
This has aged remarkably well, and paints a grim dystopian picture that feels uncomfortably close to present day America. It should be any day now that people are getting into barb wire and chainsaw fights over a bag of groceries....But the most interesting thing here is how astonishingly good Richard Dawson is as the evil game show host, eviscerating his own public persona. Would have loved to see him do more movies.

Into the Fire 1989
Awesome and rare and unlikely to ever get a blu ray release with proper subtitles.
If you haven't shared a hot tub with another man and eaten chicken wings, robbed a jewelry store, and fought off a machete gang in a warehouse....are you even bros??

Thief 1981
I don't think I'll ever get tired of this movie. It paired almost too perfectly with Straight Time. Tangerine Dream + immaculate neo-noir cinematography. So very very good. James Caan scorching the earth and then going out guns blazing to that "Comfortably Numb" ripoff is Michael Mann at absolute god-tier.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan 1989
Hard to see this as anything but a disappointment. I picture Jason getting his outfit complimented by a random pimp, interrupting a peep show, using his machete to chop up a slice of pizza. The possibilities are endless.
Instead...most of the movie takes place on a boat. A goddamn boat.
Well, I've really warmed up to the later entries of this franchise over the years. The producers clearly stopped giving a fuck at this point, and you probably should too. The uppercut decapitation is fun and Jason skulking through Times Square is a legitimately cool sequence. That's about all you can ask for.
