A remake of this with Sydney Sweeney would hit (and not just because I’m single!) Super fun 2009 vibe here, the movie should have ended with Melissa George staring at the boat with Linkin Park playing. Ultimately a little confusing with the timeline, but fun idea. Watch this while trying to stay awake because you smoked weed and decided to bake bread and have to wait for it to rise.
I do just love a monster movie (maybe because I watched Jurassic Park when I was 11 and my parents were fighting, but I digest.) I love the return to scary unicorns, but overall this didn’t grab me. People might flay me alive for this, but Paul Rudd a bit miscast? And I think it might be coming time where I stop buying that Jenna Ortega is 15; let her play an adult! Nature fights back, eat the rich, ride a unicorn (just give the writing a bit more nuance.) Watch this with a big jacket pocket beer.
Pretty solid! Extremely inventive use idea and visuals. Smoke some weed and watch it by yourself.
Very powerful. The slow, languid way that the scenes between Alcala and his victims unfold gives the audience ample time to pass judgement on the monster, which provides a very refreshing counterpoint to other serial killer moves in which the killer is either a borderline supernatural figure or, worse still, somehow sympathetic. These monsters are dangerous sure, but at their base level they are pathetic, and Kendrick’s film allows the audience to come to both conclusions.
