Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

    ★★★

The point at which these movies stop feeling like a collection of episodes in a mini-series and start feeling like movies. Half-Blood Prince follows a more cinematic structure, avoiding the school-year rhythm of the precious films, is visually impressive, and features performances from a more-experienced cast to take a step up in quality above its predecessors.

Of particular note in this film is Jim Broadbent's performance who is the first to create a character with human depth in the featured…

    A Clockwork Orange

    ★★½

Kubrick is a master of the image. A Clockwork Orange is filled with intricately-crafted, unforgettable images. The reputation of the film is based mostly on these images and their cultural impact. The nonprofessional performances are mostly good with Neumann playing perfectly…

    The Mummy

    ★½

The Mummy does very little with the mesmerizing Karloff. Though most pre-code films are very talky, they usually manage some suspense. Here, there's neither suspense, nor action, nor horror. Outside of a few memorable closeups of Karloff, most scenes are bland exposition dumps performed by a couple people sitting in nondescript rooms.

A flashback sequence contains something slightly outside of the monotony of the other scenes, but it's not particularly outstanding compared to other such set pieces of the same…
