  Wasn’t sure whether to give this 3 or 3.5 stars. In the end gave benefit of the doubt. A beautiful film without doubt: Webb displays his mastery of lighting, colouring and framing throughout. However, a complex storyline ultimately not fully fleshed out hinders potential. I haven’t read the book but would recommend doing so prior to watching for plot and character development.

  As a bloke who looks back on the 70s/80s with an almost overwhelming anemoia, this series really just strikes all the chords 😂. I loved ‘almost famous’ when I first watched it. This eclipses it in almost every way. A more mature, yet still deeply romanticised tale of a burgeoning band in the states, iced with an impressively reminiscent soundtrack, cleverly imitated documentary style and a satisfying ending. I laughed, I cried and I fear it doesn’t leave itself enough room for a sequel. Please do yourselves the favour and watch an ep.
