  The performances were great. The overall movie was not so great. A lot of build up and suspense early on, but it ultimately fell pretty flat and got a bit corny and predictable as it progressed.

  I recommend watching the original 1922 film first—you won’t regret it. This remake is fantastic and pays great respect to its predecessor. I’m not sure what compelled me to watch the original (lol), but it felt essential to see both for context and maximum enjoyment.
