i felt sadness.
loved the feeling of dread that permeates the film. there's horror and violence yes, but the true sadness that I can't shake is this hopelessness that Tala feels. a war between imperial powers is raging just out of sight and sound...but within her immediate sphere, Tala just wants help, wants her family together, wants food, ...wants answers and explanations. and yet, she's endlessly exploited and pillaged by forces outside of her control.

i don't imagine i'll actually get to watch this in its entirety, but thematically, the plot is essentially detailed in Yellow Door: '90's Lo-fi Film Club (2023); the basement tracking shot commemorating all of Bong's movies that take place in basements that follows the segment that this short plays is one of my favorite creative techniques of a cinematic 'list' I've seen in a while!
