The Great Gatsby 2013
Cringey and aged like sour milk but, it’s got vision and it goes for it. The point Luhrmann is trying to make is present and clear but doesn’t make the merging of the two time periods and that 2010s self indulgent vibe any less annoying.
All in all, confident cinematic directing held back by its aesthetic, technological limitations and a reliance on style over substance. The ambition is admirable, the excessive CGI and jarring anachronisms undermine the whole thing.
