The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie 1972
Watched with Sayak at Metrograph. It didn't leave a big impression, but I really like the scene of the lamb, where the bourgeoisie greedily reached for the lamb while the shooting is happening in the meantime. The fear of having privilege and the desire for privilege never cease to coexist.

Boyfriends and Girlfriends 1987
I don't relate to any of the characters at all. Maybe it's cultural difference, but I don't quite get the point of any of this.

Macunaima 1969
Very trippy and raw - symbolism that portrays the primal instinct of a human, essentially a child if not institutionalized. Reminded me of Poor Things. The rhythm and unexplained encounters in passing laid out in front of viewers the jungle nature of society, which ties back to the portrayal of humans' primal nature.
I personally also really enjoyed the surrealism of Brazilian jungle life. What a large amount of time and disconnection from civilization can do to people - it makes me think that the folklore elements are realistic to what people experience there, perhaps a combination of psychedelics, being close to nature, and boredom.

Nostalgia 1983
Honestly I don't quite understand what has happed in this field. Definitely need to/want to watch it again, but I think even without understanding it (or is there such thing as understanding it) I think I abstractly felt the persistence of homage to things you cannot reach or go back to.
The picture quality is gorgeous, and I am so glad I watched it in theater.
Again, I want to watch it again!
