There are two filmmakers within Bong Joon Ho. One is interested in taught crime thrillers, with a twisty plot and explosions of violence made to shock us (Parasite, Memories of Murder, Mother). The other is interested in outlandish, grotesque, not-too-distant-future sci fi stories that explore themes around exploitation and environmentalism (Snowpiercer, Okja).

Unbearable. It’s a movie for everyone and yet for no one. The deadpool wink to camera humour was funny when the first film came out but now it feels tired and simply annoying. A couple of good moments or performances but not enough to overcome how constantly irritated I felt watching this.
