    Real good but I think my expectations were too high. It made me think about the big questions and concerns in Lynch that I’m interested in and the ones that I’m not so interested in…

    I’m not so interested in:
    * “Hey! This is a movie!! People watch stuff on screens and that’s what you’re doing right now!”
    * “What is story??”

    Medium interested:
    * “The subconscious! This is what sex and you are all about.”

    More interested:
    * “This is America. Look at yourself.”
    (Related to Hey This Is A Movie but a more interesting framing for me personally.)
    * Being funny/doing jokes

    Well they were very obviously gearing up to make a series of these and I would have definitely watched all of them. What gives. Stellan is great. Everybody’s forced accent is ridiculous but Craig and Mara have good rapport. I experienced most of this story as an audiobook while jogging around Boston I think two years ago. Now that I watch the movie, I realize I had to return the book before getting to the end and it’s: eh.

    I see what they were trying to do. What makes someone great? Lowercase ”g” great. So Oppenheimer is the great man and Stross (sp?) is the man of the moment — the perfect operator within the American military industrial complex (which was brand new at this time).
