Every single scene in Sextool is so rich and multilayered that I discover something new on each watch - but despite the raw intensity of the barracks sequence and the Halsted/Yale session, this is very much Charmaine Lee Anderson's film, her laugh, dance and story echoing far beyond the final credits.
That said, I think this might be my favourite 61 minutes of cinema, period.…

The Addiction 1995
I'm at a loss - is this a parody? Maybe I'm just not in on the joke but this movie doesn't strike me as a very successful metaphor for anything in particular. It kinda sorta forces its wobbly angle on us for the sake of the horror plot - fine - but addiction in general has very little to do with evil. You're not addicted to evil, lady, you're just an asshole.

This hidden gem of gay cinema is one of the better giallos I've seen recently (looking at you, Criterion!) and features my 2nd favourite produce-based scene in the genre. Halfway through we see Eric's VHS collection which includes And the Band Played On but also some movies that seem to set the theme for this one, namely Strangers on a Train, Laura, Shock Corridor, Mean Streets, Trading Places, Dead Ringers and, of course, Rashomon, which I thought was a nice easter egg.
