  Really sad that the part of the movie I was most excited about, the depiction of the mexican revolution 1910 and the role of the women in it, never got finished:(
  Nonetheless I really like that Eisenstein managed to translate his hieroglyphic style, how he called it in his writings, into this semi-documentary and also resisting the temptation of the talkie

  This is one of the best shot horror movies I saw in a while. Nearly every shot was ripe with visual storytelling and metaphor, it took the concept of "show, don't tell" and ran with it!
  Narratively this was sometimes a bit repetitive and a bit too on the nose but while I was watching I couldn't help but think about Susan Sontags "Double standarts of ageing" where she called beauty the "theatre of [women's] enslavement" which is certainly true…
