Am I rewriting my review for a movie more than a year after watching it (and not upon re-watch)? Possibly.
I watched Babylon three times in the theater and I own the soundtrack on vinyl (and bitch about Justin Hurwitz being robbed of that Oscar every single day), it just feels unacceptable for my existing review to be a jokey little blurb when I loved the movie so much. Yes, it's complete excess in every sense, self-indulgent to the extreme…

The Peasants 2023
The Peasants is stunning as an artistic undertaking, but as a whole project I found myself wanting more from it. Often the painting is so photorealistic it almost reads more as a 'painting' instagram filter, leaving me to wonder what the point of such a project was - why spend so much time, effort, and paint on something that doesn't take full advantage of its chosen medium? The scenes of nature were the most striking, playing with color and stylization…

The Last House on the Left 1972
It's Wes Craven before he was Wes Craven! The Last House on the Left is a film whose reputation does not quite match it's reality. Invasion of Astro-Monster 1965
Invasion of Astro Monster is one of the best of the Showa era Godzilla movies, full of perfectly silly moments and some nice monster mayhem. It's one of the better King Ghidorah movies, as well as one of the better alien invasion ones - both elements that get recycled frequently in the Showa movies. It made a fun accompaniment to the unreasonably difficult Godzilla jigsaw puzzle we were working on, but unfortunately I, the host, smoked too much weed and fell asleep at my own party :/
