    Donnie Darko

I'm pretty sure I figured it all out.

The canonical version of Donnie Darko is to watch the theatrical cut but to be aware of the Director's Cut. I have watched them both, and I obviously dislike the DC. But being vaguely aware of it helps piece together the theatrical cut as well. But in no shape or form does the movie benefit from cutting its best song and adding additional explanation.

Donnie Darko is such a spectacular experience because it is rough around the edges.

    The Fountainhead

Watching this for historical reasons because it was mentioned in a "Knowing Better" video and a recent episode of the 99% Invisible podcast. It helped me connect some dots to both Megalopolis and The Brutalist.

Of course, The Fountainhead is purely the worst, Brutalist is a fine movie and Megalopolis is a magical wonder compared to The Fountainhead. But that male genius trope really has to stop. It brought us straight to Elon Musk.

It's hard to put into word why I liked Hesitation Wound so much.

With a great performance by the lead actor Tülin Özen, every conflict in this was believable. Every story beat was used to the fullest.

Juggling a tough murder case, running after leads and witnesses, her mother in a coma, the moral dilemma of ending life support, the resulting conflict with her sister, our protagonist being the Turkish equivalent of "the daughter from california"- syndrome, stress-related stomach ulcers. A normal day in the life of a lawyer.

Incredible movie. When they first talked about how Bella became what she is, I felt the whole cinema hold their breath for a second. It manages to skirt the line between ridiculous and highly controversial. But as quick as the moment came, it went and we all happily followed Bella's adventures.

I will watch this again multiple times, I can guarantee. For the incredible cinematography, for the costumes, the backgrounds, the characters, the colours, the music. Everything.
