  There is so much to love about this movie. The whole idea of loving-your-kids-but-not-liking them and the struggle of independence/needing a parental figure is so great. The observation how quickly you can change from shouting to something tonally different when talking with your family.   Rarely have I seen a movie having a bigger fumble. At best three stars in total, but then the movie has the audacity to be so overlong in the third act when we all know what needs to and will happen that I can't even bring myself to that.

  I think it's funny that they initially had Dennis Hopper as Christof (thank god that didn't happen) and searched and searched for a replacement when Paul Giamatti was right there.

  "Peter Weir had planned for projectionists to stop the film at one point during all screenings, cut to video shot by cameras installed in every theater, then cut back to the movie. To make things even more meta, he flirted with the idea of playing Truman's director, Christof, himself."
