Felt very lucky to witness a screening of this saved-from-extinction 99 year old silent docu-drama about the Sámi way of life soundtracked by a quartet of Sámi musicians incorporating live instrumentation, looped Joik vocals and absolutely blistering electronica which about tore a hole in the roof of Scotland’s oldest cinema and the hearts of everyone who experienced it.
Kudos to the attending curators who salvaged the film, contextualised its importance and created the stunning film print, those incredible musicians and HippFest for programming an unforgettable night that reminded me why I started going to the cinema in the first place.
