I think satire works about 10% of the time, maybe less when it’s political satire. I hate Donald Trump as much or more as the next rational human being, but as soon as I saw the red hats and Ruffalo’s megalomaniacal performance, I knew I was in for a long sit.
And that was what I got. Overstuffed with ideas that never quite come together and with a mishmash of tones. Pattinson does what he can, but this one really didn’t work for me.

I can’t stop thinking about this one and I think I’m only scratching the surface of understanding it. I spent much of the viewing vacillating between thinking it was genius and wondering if it was an empty exercise in style. I’ve come down more on the side of genius. Jessie Buckley is excellent, giving a wonderfully raw performance. Rory Kinnear is also spectacular.
