I really enjoyed watching this movie.

The movie portrays the immigrant experience with real, well thought out depth. Sure, it doesn’t focus on the more bureaucratic aspects of what goes into settling into a new country. I’ve seen a lot of negative reviews for the film as of late. I’ve seen it on opening day, it was quite nice to see the cinema packed. It makes a movie going experience all the more enjoyable.

Now that I’ve appreciated its technical prowess, I have to say…

Let me preface by saying I liked this movie in various places. But as a whole I don’t like it. Upon rewatch it doesn’t hold up that well.

Ralph Fiennes has given a good performance as usual, I love to watch actors enjoy their work and work in coherence with their scene partners to deliver well acted scenes. Stanley Tucci shines in the scenes he shares with Fiennes. As two friends must take a side in order to prevent something…
