This was quite different from films I normally watch. As you are introduced to this brooding relationship, the scenes wander with seemingly no real purpose and I did find it difficult sometimes to realise the significance of what was happening (e.g. the last 10 mins). A few times even I’ll admit I was lost in the actual events of story as there are lots of large time skips and hiding of characters faces.
The most enjoyable part of this film…
I liked the piercing stare Snowblood gives her next victims and how brutal she can be with the blade.
I see why Tarrantino adapted the character.
However, as a film this just felt dated to me with action that you more have to imagine than actual choreography that tells a a story. Also, there wasn’t much else to the film than just “revenge” and I generally don’t find this theme compelling by itself.
Would have been higher if not for a message that was more on the nose than your grandad’s spectacles and the cacophony of modern day references that makes Rian Johnson go “hello fellow imposters”. Other than that the murder mystery was as clever and entertaining as the first and makes for a fun watch. A+ for the Codenames mention as well.
