Reminds me of pulpy children's fantasy books I used to read as a kid. Big magician's nephew vibes.
Meditations on creativity as a burden, doesn't hit me quite as hard as The Wind Rises. Incredibly poignant as a potential last film still. Also, maybe Ghibli's best animation to date. Compelling and fun cast of characters. I would describe Masaki Suda's performance as the heron as "effervescent".
One of Miyazaki's most unfocused/scattered plots. Need a rewatch tbh.
