Videodrome 1983
Cronenburg's sci-fi body horror. Maxx Ren (James Woods) is a cable programmer for a controversial sensationalist television station that airs fake beatings, pornography, and the like.
The plot centers around Ren being shown a pirated broadcast signal of a snuff film, Videodrome. However, Videodrome is no ordinary snuff film, it's a form of mind control that casts out a signal that makes the viewer hallucinate and even carry out acts of violence.
5/5 for the practical effects. 3/5 for it's inability to hold my interest. The last 20 minutes are the best part of the film.

Terry Gilliam's dystopian masterpiece. Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce) is a low level bureaucrat working for an oppressive government agency, the Ministry of Information. The plot revolves around Lowry the proverbial everyman, escaping a totalitarian existence by way of flights of fancy, solidarity and affinity with an anti-authoritarian "terrorist" Tuttle (Robert DeNiro), and ultimately descent into madness.
Gilliam portrays a fascist state in a hilarious and cartoonish fashion. Big Brother is watching you, and he is shit at paperwork. There is a literal bug in the operating system.
A perfect movie from start to finish.
