    The scope of this film is staggering. It feels as though Edward Yang opened a door and let the audience walk through a time machine to what Taiwan in the early 1960s must have been like. A time full of uncertainty, corruption, and violence, but also a time of beauty and hope.

    Such a fun film. Chaplin's set pieces are second to none. I feel like this satire hits way too close to home for having been made in 1936, but here we are.

    Sergio Leone is the master of the Spaghetti Western. This film has a deliberate and slow pace, but that only serves to rachet up the tension when the action does happen. The wide vistas of Utah and Arizona are beautifully lensed in the classic Technicolor and Techniscope. All of our main characters are memorable and the way the Techniscope renders their faces is awesome. Bronson and Fonda in particular are great. And last, but not least the one and only Ennio Morricone composes an epic score for the film.

    The first half of this film envelops the viewer as we see a relationship slowly start to blossom. Not only that but the world and locations as a whole seem to start seeping in deeper and deeper as the movie moves forward. The camera work is rough, but nevertheless beautiful (both in the lensing of the landscapes and cityscapes, but also the time it spends on each of our main two characters' faces.)
