Impressive visuals and practical effects can’t save this misguided sequel. The unnerving zombie AI robot pulled me out of the movie with its inconsistent facial texture mapping (eyeballs look like they’re painted on a flat face in some scenes). Why not just cast Michael Fassbender? The characters often make nonsensical decisions like answering the radio when they need to be quiet in a hallway full of face-huggers, or stabbing themselves in the neck with mysterious black goo for…reasons? And don’t…
Haunting and important; shows how average people can slowly become accustomed to evil hiding in the background of everyday life. Visually and sonically stunning, uses sounds and filming techniques that make you feel complicit for watching. The main performances were incredibly raw and believable. If some of the side characters were more fleshed out it could’ve highlighted the consequences of the actions of the main characters, but perhaps the point is that the main characters don’t care so the audience doesn’t either.
