Kinda great. I really liked Raiff's debut Shithouse and was anticipating this one as well. This is clearly a bigger budget movie with big name stars in the cast but doesn't feel like a sophomore slump at all. It plays on a lot of the same themes and the tone of his debut but certainly doesn't feel like a rerun. Almost like a spiritual sequel more than anything. The young college kid becomes a young college graduate and has things…

Jerry & Marge Go Large 2022
I mean, it's FINE, I guess. But it's still a bit mind-numbingly middle of the road. Reeking of studio notes and featuring two pretty horrible supporting performances (Larry Wilmore, Rainn Wilson), it's hard to really recommend. Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special 2022
Really quite lovely. I had put off watching it for a couple weeks because I figured it'd be too sad to watch. Norm has always been my favorite comedian. His death hit me harder than the deaths of some of my own family members. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him, or quote a Norm line from something. Or pronounce something wrong for effect. I wear a Dirty Work hat, for crying out loud. Anyway, he's…

Maggie's Plan 2015
Pretty good time. Little bit of a screwball vibe in places. Julianne Moore commits to a weird accent the whole time. Gerwig is fairly winning, Hawke is great as always. Slightly loosely plotted but it's a basically rewarding slice of life. The anxiety of the New York intellectual set has been done a million times before but this has a bit more energy in spurts than some of the other movies that cover the same ground. Hoped I'd like it more but it's a good watch for something that bridges the gap between standard rom-com and arthouse fare.
