  This movie made me feel like I was losing my damn mind. Every scene felt random with the loosest level of connection to the "plot" which was barely existent.

  The only thing I will say and this is just me trying to find a kernel of value in this shitty film, is at least I learned that Guangzhou has a small African migrant community which is something I didn't know.

  I will still try to watch another Sissako films because…

  This is the film that finally solidified for me how much I dislike Wes Anderson.

  - the whimsical invented white nostalgic innocence
  - the rigid bureaucratic quirkiness
  - his ability to always center a white storyline regardless of the token people of color in his films
  -the awkwardness of how he addresses class or any marginalized community

  Given how much detail and thought goes into his films its hard to not think these things are intentional.

  A bad period piece that didn't need to get re-made with a lot of cringey fake New York and broken English accents.

  As both a native new yorker and a Spanish speaker I was not convinced by the acting and it took away from the pretty solid musical strength of the performers.

  It must have been hard for Anita (Ariana DeBose) to carry this entire film by herself.
