Several cliches are set up for the leading characters, but to my slowly growing anguish, they are all subverted into painful realities.

Props to Eisenberg for having such precision in his writing- the story and dialogue are quite simple yet they carry so much weight. On the surface it looks like any other basic comedy but it leaves you staring into the distance in dismay by the end of it.

The hype for Culkin is real. His character genuinely gave me anxiety. It was honestly very uncomfortable to watch.

I’m convinced people completely misunderstand campy style. I always feel like it’s a good joke that just flies over people’s heads.

Batman Forever falls victim to this. It’s an edgy take on 1960s tv Batman. It’s wacky, zany, well over the top. FAR from being another colorless, boring superhero movie that takes its self way too seriously.

Surprisingly nuanced. Impressive cinematography. Creative and very decided in its style. Bold for a blockbuster. A noteworthy score. A largely well casted group with great performances. For me, Colin Farrell was a stand out. He completely disappeared into his character.

Its greatness overshadowed it’s many flaws. There were many little story details that do not add up or show the incompetence of various characters once you start to think about it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It satisfies many fronts. It manages to build an entertaining major film despite its heavy imagery and very adult themes, while retaining its comic book source material.

I’ve watched this movie a million times over the years and it still gets me laughing out loud.  I love how much of the humor stems from cynicism and existentialism. It starts off mean, but blossoms into a story of camaraderie.
