    Unflinchingly visceral in its depiction of the Iraq and Afghanistan war, American Sniper is an effective, yet too familiar war film that doesn’t accomplish nearly enough to set it apart from any other in the bloated genre. The intensity and realism of the battle scenes are nothing short of spectacular as the portrayal of American soldiers are battle-weary and vulnerable, both qualities highlighting the immeasurable sacrifice laid forth by the men and women in service.
