Elevated horror with a dash of body horror added in for good measure- a lot more Hereditary rather than The Substance or anything Cronenberg. I think for a movie focused on generational trauma the family aspect felt a little undercooked, and expanding a little more on that would've made a bit better use of a runtime that felt a tad overlong. Acting is off, writing is fairly bad. There's a teen playing a child half her age in what I can only describe as an offputting way. Characters seem to immediately realize things like several seconds of dialogue were cut out of the middle of conversations or scenes. Feels a little bit like it was made by someone who thinks they're too grown up for things like Goosebumps, but couldn't write as well so they just threw in a sex scene and some curses to make it feel like it was more adult.
