Anora 2024
Kind of feels like I must be misreading the film or just not able to gleam enough subtext to understand the positive reaction. Anora feels like a trope, completely underdeveloped as a character, with a few clues as to her internal world (that also feel tropey). Comedy moments are funny, but there's only so much yelling you can watch before the comedy dries out. Second half of the film kind of feels like it tries (and fails) to match the stressful chaotic humour of Uncut Gems. Great performances all round which are fun to watch, but ultimately this feels pretty shallow as a script.
