Not a good movie but it's so interesting and weird to see Gary Burghoff interact with alternate universe M*A*S*H characters. Robert Duvall as Frank Burns is *chef's kiss*.
I'd actually recommend watching this AFTER the series even though it came out before so you can have a stronger basis to analyze how similar/different the character portrayals are. I like the cast in both but, come on, Alan Alda IS Hawkeye. Sorry Don.
It's like someone watched Alex Parkinson's documentary, Last Breath (2019), and said let's do that again but more dramatic. Oh also I'm Alex Parkinson.
It's good "bad" cinema but also, yeah, this shit happens. Don't do life-risking jobs if you're not prepared to risk your life. Especially grade school teachers in the US.
It doesn't get good until the twelfth episode and even then the characters are still so awkward. I think my biggest problem was the juvenile dialogue and characterizations. But, it still has a pretty solid story if you can keep up with the wibbly wobbly timey wimey.
I'm just glad I never have to hear "tutturu" again. If anyone greets me like that, I'll probably impulsively punch them in the throat.
