Watching this for the first time a day after watching the original documentary for the first time and the two complement each other very well. You watch the documentary with some level of unease as you try to determine how exploitative the film is; this gives you permission to finally exhale and smile.

Is it truthful? Is replacing the stars talking in their own voices with actors reading from a script more exploitative? Is cinema still incapable of capturing the true essence of Jacqueline Bouvier/Kennedy/Onassis on screen? Maybe, maybe not, but this worked as a double feature in a wonderful way.

In general shapeless documentaries like this aren't entirely my thing (I can recognize the craft, but I like my documentaries to make an argument or tell a story or build to a conclusion) but I knew what I was in for here and this did not disappoint. Absolutely the sort of thing that sticks to you for months afterwards.

I'm not sure that this should necessarily count for the LSC10 week that I'm using it for (films with female composers) since there isn't much scoring to speak of, but I'm glad that I got around to watching this!

Two-thirds of the way through the movie (when Aaron Samuels and Josh Chan's kitchen renovation gets revealed) my wife turned to me, unamused, and goes "wow that's the same kitchen floorplan as all the other houses, they barely tried here."

I will never forget this movie now.
